Terms of Service

The agreement between you and PermitBeam. No legalese traps.

By using PermitBeam, you agree to these terms. If something doesn't make sense, email us at hello@permitbeam.com and we'll clarify.

The Service

PermitBeam provides building permit and code violation data digests delivered via email. We pull data from public government APIs — specifically NYC DOB NOW (Open Data) and Westchester County municipal systems — and organize it into actionable intelligence based on your selected ZIP codes.

Data Accuracy

All permit and violation data comes from official government sources. We present this data as-is. While we take care to ensure accuracy in our processing and delivery, we cannot guarantee that the underlying government data is complete, current, or error-free.

PermitBeam is an informational tool, not a substitute for professional due diligence. Always verify critical data independently before making business decisions based on our digests.

Accounts

You need an account to use PermitBeam. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, email us immediately.

One account per person. Don't share your account credentials or forward digests to people outside your organization without a multi-seat plan.

Subscriptions and Billing

  • Subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe
  • Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel
  • You can cancel anytime — your access continues through the end of your current billing period
  • Price changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance and apply at your next renewal

Refunds

If you're not satisfied with PermitBeam, you can request a prorated refund within 14 days of any billing charge. After 14 days, no refund is issued, but you can cancel to prevent future charges.

To request a refund, email hello@permitbeam.com with your account email and the reason. We process refunds within 5 business days.

Acceptable Use

PermitBeam data is provided for professional business use. You may use the data in your digests to:

  • Identify insurance coverage opportunities
  • Find contractor leads and active job sites
  • Track real estate market activity
  • Inform your business decisions

You may not:

  • Resell or redistribute PermitBeam digests as a competing data service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download data from our emails or website
  • Use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to access other users' data or interfere with the service

Intellectual Property

The PermitBeam name, logo, website design, and digest formatting are our intellectual property. The underlying permit and violation data is public government data — we don't claim ownership of that.

You're welcome to reference specific data points from your digests in your business communications. You may not reproduce our digest format, branding, or presentation as your own.

Limitation of Liability

PermitBeam is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for business decisions you make based on our data
  • We are not liable for errors or omissions in government source data
  • We are not liable for service interruptions, delayed digests, or temporary data gaps
  • Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months

We do our best to deliver reliable, timely data. But things break sometimes — APIs go down, governments change their data formats, servers have bad days. We'll always communicate issues transparently and work to resolve them quickly.

Service Changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of PermitBeam at any time. If we make changes that significantly reduce the value of your subscription, we'll give you at least 30 days notice and offer a prorated refund if you choose to cancel.

Termination

You can close your account at any time by emailing us. We may terminate your account if you violate these terms — but we'll give you a warning first unless the violation is severe (fraud, abuse, etc.).

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Westchester County, NY.
